Welcome to the
Southeast Georgia DiabetesFest
website

Due to a multitude of circumstances, the Southeast Georgia DiabetesFest
will not take place in the Spring of 2011

Please monitor this website for details of upcoming DiabetesFests,
tentatively beginning in 2012.

If you have any questions, please contact Craig Roberts below.

A group of caring people within the community thought that area residents affected by,
or at risk for, diabetes would benefit from an opportunity to learn more about diabetes -
its prevention and its management. To this end, we are bringing an event to the area and
inviting the public from the surrounding counties to come and enjoy a day with us,
learning about diabetes and enjoying fellowship with others who seek to do the same.

There will be a variety of presentations about diabetes - a humorous presentation on
the seriousness of diabetes with emphasis on the need to manage it well, a presentation
especially for young people done by a young person with diabetes, a motivational
presentation by a person with diabetes encouraging others with diabetes to manage their
condition, a presentation by a person with diabetes explaining the action of and need
for insulin by everyone, and a budget-conscious food preparation presentation.

There will also be booths with information from national and local businesses
supplying products or services related to diabetes, along with a few booths from
businesses who just care about area residents with diabetes. Also invited and
expected to have display space are national organizations specific to diabetes, such as the
American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Finally, there will be some health checks designed to identify risk factors which
may indicate the existence of undiagnosed, or diagnosed but under-treated, diabetes.

The inaugural Southeast Georgia DiabetesFest
was dedicated to the memory of the late
James A. "Jimmy" Richardson
who passed away on January 27, 2010 after
having lived nearly 50 years with diabetes.

Jimmy was a gentleman and a scholar, an elder and
a pastor, a brother, a husband, a father and a friend.
